||
If you want to learn to snowboard, you're not alone. Since being accepted as a competitive sport into the Olympics, it has become one of the more popular winter sports in the U.S. In order to learn to snowboard well, the best tact is to take lessons from a certified snowboarder - and not from your best friend. Not only will you learn the basics the right way, but you won't have to worry about aggravating your friend because you're not catching on fast enough. Many resorts will either have certified trainers on site or be able to direct you to one. A good certified instructor, in addition to teaching you to snowboard, will be able to give you tips on choosing the best snowboard for yourself, determining the best types of snow to snowboard in, and advise you on the best types of clothing to wear. While you can learn to snowboard to a certain extent from snowboarding videos that will take you through the process on how to do certain things. But, ultimately, you just have to get out there and do it. Learning to Snowboard - Getting ReadyIn order to learn to snowboard, and before you learn to do snowboard tricks, there are some basics things that you should be prepared for if you intend to learn how to snowboard. 1) Choose the right snowboard for yourself - The first few times that you go snowboarding, rent, do not buy, your snowboard. The assistants in the rental shops will be able to help you to select the snowboard, boots, and bindings that are right for you. But ultimately, until you get out on the slopes, you won't know if they are right for you or not. 2) Lose your fear of falling - you are going to fall, just accept it. But you can practice learning how to fall the right way. This mostly involves learning to relax, especially your legs. If you can train your legs to be relaxed, you'll not only hurt yourself less when you fall, but you'll actually fall less. The sooner you master falling gracefully, the sooner you can move on to learning to actually balance yourself on the snowboard. 3) Prepare for aching muscles the first few weeks - If you haven't snowboarded before, you are probably going to find yourself using muscles you haven't used since you were born - even if you're in good shape. One of the first things that you'll have to learn is how to move (starting, stopping, and turning) and balance on a snowboard. This means that you're going to be spending a lot of time in the crouched position, bending your knees, and discovering new leg muscles. 4) Be prepared to spend 4 to 5 days on the slopes - After 4 or 5 days on the slopes riding your snowboard, you'll probably begin to feel pretty good among the snowboarders out there. And this is probably when you'll actually start to have fun as well. Knowing that it will take this long to become proficient, it's probably not a bad idea to simply plan a snowboarding vacation with the intent of taking classes and perfecting your skills the first 4 days of your trip. 5) If you want to learn to snowboard well, you have to have training and you have to practice. It also helps if you live in an area near snow.
